The Odisha Administrative Tribunal was set up on 14.07.1986. The sanctioned Strength of Members including Hon’ble Chairman is eight. Now Hon’ble Acting Chairman and three Members are functioning in the Tribunal. Hon’ble Acting Chairman Dr. S.N. Dash will complete his tenure of office in O.A.T. during March, 2015
The Tribunal has a regular Bench at Bhubaneswar which is known as Principal Bench. It has also a regular Bench at Cuttack which has been functioning since 1992. Besides, two Circuit Benches are also held every month, one at Berhampur and another at Sambalpur.
Impressive achievement have been made by way of disposal of 19,280 cases in the year 2010, 8206 cases in 2011, 7783 cases in 2012, 7077 cases in 2013 and 6253 cases by the end of October, 2014.
Process of E-Governance has been introduced since 2009 and accordingly 53 numbers of Computers have been installed with limited internet facility and LAN Connectivity. Proposals have been placed before Government for creation of adequate number of posts of additional members and staff for both Benches of this Tribunal in view of huge pendency of cases in the Tribunal as well as multiplication of new cases filed every year.
It is further pertinent to mention that on 6th December, 2014 the Odisha Administrative Tribunal had conducted the “2nd National Lok Adalat” as per request of Odisha State Legal Services Authority both at the premises of Principal Bench, Bhubaneswar and Cuttack Bench, Cuttack with the co-operation of the functionaries of the State Government. On that day 27 cases were disposed of under the supervision of Hon’ble Dr. S.N. Dash, Acting Chairman, O.A.T.
Government have been pleased to allot 2 (two) acres of land at Sector-1, Markatnagar, Bidanashi Project Area, C.D.A., Cuttack in favour of Odisha Administrative Tribunal for construction of an independent building for Cuttack Bench for which the estimated cost of `.21,52,75,000/- has got due administrative approval of the Government and out of which `. 19,97,100/- has been diverted to Chief Engineer, building for installation of lift machine at O.A.T. Principal Bench, Bhubaneswar. A sum of RS. 21,32,77,900/- has been released and a proposal has been placed before the Govt. for allotment of ` 19,97,100/- in the budgetary provision towards construction of building for Cuttack Bench. Construction work of the building for Cuttack Bench is in progress and is expected to be completed very soon.
