Padma Awards

PADMA AWARDS
Padma Awards, one of the highest civilian awards of the country, are conferred in three categories, namely, Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhusan and Padma Shri. The awards are given in various disciplines/ fields of activities, viz art, social work, public affairs, science and engineering, trade and industry, medicine, public affairs, science and engineering, trade and industry, medicine, literature and education, sports, civil service, etc. ‘Padma Vibhushan’ is awarded for exceptional and distinguished service; Padma Bhusan for distinguished service of high order and Padma Shri for distinguished service in any field. The awards are announced on the occasion of Republic Day every year. These awards are conferred by President of India at ceremonial functions which are held at Rastrapati Bhawan usually around March/April every year.
                  
Two meetings of the Search Committee for Padma Award-2015 constituted by the State Government were held on 27.8. 2014 and 06.09.2014 under the Chairmanship of Shri S.M.Patnaik, Retd. IAS, Ex-Chief Secretary, Odisha. After due consideration, State Government have recommended names of 27 (twenty seven) eminent persons to the Govt. of India for consideration of Padma Awards, 2015 to be announced on the eve of Republic Day. 2015.

This year (2015) the President of India has approved conferment of Padma Awards to 104 persons from various spheres and different States of India and also to some category of foreigners, NRIs, PIOs, and Posthumous awardees. Among the list is also the name of Dr. Prafulla Kar, approved for Padma Shri for Art from State of Odisha
